Both lanes of I-90 closed at Stateline

One person is dead, and both lanes of Interstate 90 are closed while law enforcement officials work to clear the scene after several separate cars collided with a moose. Washington State Patrol said three separate cars crashed into the moose running across the highway about 9:15 p.m., just west of the Stateline. “Sounds like a car eastbound hit it, then another westbound, and then another westbound,” said Trooper Troy Briggs. At least one person suffered fatal injures at the scene about three miles east of Liberty Lake, Briggs said. The identity of the individual is not known. Emergency dispatch reports said one person was ejected into the median, and required CPR while lying on the roadway. The helicopter ambulance service MedStar was called in to transport at least one patient. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Liberty Lake Police, Idaho State Police are assisting at the scene. It is not known when the road will reopen.
