Cheney, Pullman hit district final

Four-run second innings propelled Cheney and Pullman to victories Wednesday in the District 7 2A baseball tournament.

Sean Scholer’s two-out double triggered the four-run uprising for the Blackhawks (17-3) in their 6-3 win over visiting Colville, with Dalton Harding and Drew Ableman following with RBIs. It was part of a 3-for-3 day for Scholar, who had a pair of doubles and two runs scored.

Colville (13-7) battled back with three runs in the fourth inning, but Matt Locker came on in relief of Cameron Lowe with the bases loaded and two out and induced a pop-up.

In Pullman, Cody Weber blasted a three-run homer with A.J. Therrien and Kyle Davison aboard to launch the Greyhounds (13-4) to a 4-3 victory over the Bantams (15-6).

Therrien ran his record to 6-1 with the complete-game win.

Cheney and Pullman play at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bailey-Brayton Field in Pullman with the winner being the No. 1 seed to regionals. Clarkston and Colville meet in a loser-out game at 10 a.m., the winner playing the Cheney-Pullman loser for the other regional berth.

•District 7 2B: Three bunts for base hits turned into a four-run sixth inning that spurred Republic to a 9-5 loser-out victory over visiting Davenport.

Little ball ruled the day as five of Republic’s nine runs scored on either squeeze plays or sacrifice bunts that the Gorillas couldn’t handle. Toorey Booher pushed home a run with a suicide squeeze, was 2 for 4 and was on base five times. He also went the distance on the mound, running his record to 3-1.

The Tigers play Colfax at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Avista Stadium. The winner advances to state.

Northwest Christian and St. George’s meet in the other winner-to-state game at 10 a.m.
