Prep roundup: LC upsets U-Hi, earns regional berth

The sixth-seeded Lewis and Clark softball team is headed to the 4A regional tournament.

Kendall Pavey’s two-out single drove in the winning run as the Tigers upset No. 2 University 5-4 in eight innings Tuesday in a District 8 loser-out game at Whitworth University.

LC (8-15) will join district champ Central Valley (19-2) at regionals.

Pavey, who went 4 for 4, also picked up the win on the mound, limiting U-Hi (18-4) to five hits and three earned runs. Teammate Kristen Fururlie went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

Ashley Moon had a two-run single as the Titans tied the score at 4 in the sixth. Pavey retired the Titans in order in the bottom of the seventh.

•District 8 3A : Delaney Zalud threw a no-hitter, striking out 15, as Mt. Spokane handled East Valley 10-0 in a run rule-shortened six innings at Whitworth.

Both teams advance to regionals with Mt. Spokane (13-9) as the second seed and EV (10-12) as the third seed.

Just two Knights reached base – one on a walk and the other on an error.

The Wildcats ended the game with two runs in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Zalud and a pinch-hit single by Abby Ricco. Chelsea Gray led Mt. Spokane’s offense by going 4 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs.

•District 7 2A : No. 4 seed Clarkston took care of No. 5 Cheney 11-1 at Clarkston while No. 6 Deer Park upset No. 3 West Valley 3-1 at WV.

Clarkston (12-9) goes to top-seeded Pullman and Deer Park (9-12) visits No. 2 Colville on Thursday. Cheney (6-14) and WV (13-8) play loser-out games Saturday against foes to be determined Thursday.

Clarkston pitcher Riley Swanson had a one-hitter in a run-rule shortened five innings. The Bantams’ Bailie Copeland went 2 for 3 and Anna Draper had two hits and three RBIs.

DP pitcher Kandace Leiliefield threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts. Her two-run triple in the fourth inning gave the Stags a 2-1 lead.

WV pitchers Rachel Meagley and Kelli Peckham combined for 14 strikeouts.

•District 7 2B : Davenport and Colfax will play for the title and top two seeds to state after eight games were played at Medical Lake.

Davenport and Colfax will face off at 4:30 on Saturday at Waterfront Park in Medical Lake. Davenport advanced with an 11-6 win over Republic and 5-3 decision over Lind-Ritzville in eight innings. Colfax advanced behind a 17-0 rout of St. George’s and an 11-1 victory over Reardan.

In other first-round games, Lind-Ritzville topped Springdale 12-7 and Reardan downed Selkirk 11-7.

In loser-out games, Springdale topped Republic 13-5 and Selkirk handled St. George’s 20-0.

Springdale takes on Reardan and Lind-Ritzville faces Selkirk in loser-out games Saturday at Kettle Falls. The winners then square off in an elimination game to decide the third seed to state.

Melissa Choate had a bases-loaded single to knock in two runs for Davenport in the top of the eighth against Lind-Ritzville.

Abby Erickson led Colfax against Reardan. She went 3 for 3 with three RBIs.

•District 7 1B : Inchelium survived a pair of loser-out games, 10-5 over Odessa and 6-4 over Columbia at Columbia.

Inchelium takes on St. Michael’s for a state berth when the tourney resumes Saturday at Kettle Falls. Pitcher Jordan Signor of Inchelium had a combined 10 strikeouts in the two wins.

•District 9 2B : Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia defeated visiting Dayton 7-6 and DeSales downed visiting Asotin 6-4 in loser-out games.

Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia meets Waitsburg-Prescott and DeSales takes on Garfield-Palouse in games Friday at TRAC in Pasco.

T-O/R rallied for two runs in the seventh. Briann Maley singled in the winning run on a 3-2 pitch.

•District 9 1B : Colton routed visiting Tri-Cities Prep 20-0 and Touchet defeated visiting LaCrosse-Washtucna 8-2.

A state berth will be on the line Friday when Colton and Touchet meet at TRAC in Pasco, while L-W and Tri-Cities Prep meet in a loser-out game, also Friday in Pasco.

Kalsey Moser, Courtney Druffel and Mollie Kramer each had two hits to lead Colton. Kelsey Dorman led Touchet with a three-run homer.

Track

District 8 4A : The Lewis and Clark boys 1,600-meter relay defeated Central Valley in a run-off.

The Tigers posted a time of 3 minutes, 26.7 seconds and will advance to regionals. LC and CV finished in a rare dead heat Friday behind winner Mead, timing identical 3:26.46s. The finish-line photo couldn’t determine who placed second.

•District 7 2B : The defending state champ Lind-Ritzville boys and Colfax girls captured team titles at Whitworth University. The top three finishers in each event advance to state.

Jordan Bilodeaux (110-meter hurdles), Casey Rios (discus) and Marshall Freyberger (pole vault) won individual titles to lead Lind-Ritzville. Chace Bell of Reardan took three events (100, 200 and long jump) and anchored the winning 400 relay.

Kayla Johnson (100 hurdles) and Morgan Wilson (3,200) led Colfax, while Kelsey Chase of Northwest Christian-Colbert (100 and 200) and Kate Reidy of St. George’s (800 and 1,600) were two-event winners.

•District 7 1B : The Columbia boys and Curlew girls earned team titles at Whitworth University.

The top two finishers in each event advance to state.

The Columbia boys won without an individual winner. Noel Meyer (400, 800 and 1,600) won three events to lead the Curlew girls.

Golf

District 7 2A : Pullman’s girls won the team title 148-123 over Deer Park, and Kelsey Dutton of Deer Park earned medalist honors with a two-round total of 175 at MeadowWood Golf Course. The top 12 placers advance to state.

•District 7/9 2B/1B girls : Kira Powell of Odessa earned medalist honors as she shot rounds of 86 and 87 at Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland. The top 16 placers advance to state.
