Coeur d’Alene chef a lottery winner

A rare $10 tip for a chef at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course yielded lottery winnings of $100,000 on Thursday. Sean Christiansen of Coeur d’Alene used the tip money to buy a “Gold Rush” scratch ticket from the Tesoro gas station at 2301 E. Sherman Ave. after finishing his Monday night shift. When he scratched the ticket that night, he quickly realized he won. “It was pretty late, but I called my family and got everybody up,” Christiansen said in a news release from the Idaho Lottery. He and his father, Jack, went to Boise to claim the prize Thursday. Christiansen, who has lived in Coeur d’Alene for 21 years, said he might get himself a “new ride” with his winnings and will invest in an education bond for his young son. Tesoro will receive a $12,000 bonus from the state lottery for selling the ticket.
