Woman in Spokane River found safe

Police say the 23-year-old woman who went missing in the Spokane River about 9 p.m. Wednesday is safe. According to officers, the woman did go into the river, but did not suffer any serious injury and was able to make it to shore by herself. Just after midnight Thursday, police say the woman called her mother to report she was OK. Search and Recovery crews had been looking for her at People’s Park near Riverside and Clark after a male friend told police that the two of them jumped in the river and then he lost sight of her. Crews spent the next three hours searching for the woman, but finally called off the search when it was determined the light was too poor, the river was running too fast, and the water was too cold to enter.
