Kindergarteners camp out at Summit School

Kindergarten students at Summit School spent the night of May 15 camping out in their own backyard. Students brought their sleeping bags to school for an overnight experience that included roasting hot dogs over campfires and making s’mores.

The event included visits from Sparky the Fire Dog from Fairchild Air Force Base, who supervised the campfires, and Smokey the Bear. Firefighters from Spokane Valley Fire also visited and brought a fire engine for the kids to explore.

The students have been studying plants and nature in class.

Child safety

Parents from Adams Elementary spent the evening of April 20 at the school to learn how to keep their children safe from abduction and sexual assault. Parents watched a video while their children played games in the gym, then parents and students worked together during an interactive presentation on what to do if faced with a potential abductor.

The program was sponsored by Adams Elementary, Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home and Thornhill Valley Chapel.

Photographs picked for exhibition

Images taken by Central Valley School District students will be shown at the Photographic Society of America’s conference in late September.

The student work selected by national judges will be included in the youth showcase exhibition at the International Conference of Photography on Sept. 20-26 in West Yellowstone, Mont.

Nine winners were chosen from the Inland Empire chapter of the Photographic Society of America, including four from the Valley:
