Tradition, not persecution

The Spokesman-Review

Please let the record show that there were many inaccuracies in the letter last Sunday, “Persecuted should know better.”

First of all, the signs did not mention “anti-gay” or “anti-equality” and there were people of various ages from teens to older people holding up signs to keep marriage between one man and one woman.

This is not a change nor persecution, it is maintaining traditional marriage between one man and one woman. Studies have shown that this is the best for raising children and for a strong society.

This is not a discrimination issue. Senate Bill 5688 is about homosexual marriage as evidenced by the open and public statements in the Seattle Times by a gay senator and a gay representative in our Legislature that expansion of domestic partner benefits is a strategic step by the homosexual community toward legalizing same-sex marriage in Washington state.

The Russian community is part of a larger movement to maintain traditional marriage as being between a man and a woman. I will cast a reject vote on R-71 to keep traditional marriage in Washington state.
