PORTLAND – James Reid made 34 saves for Spokane as the Chiefs shut out the Portland Winterhawks 3-0 in Western Hockey League play Sunday.

“It was a great job by James Reid in goal tonight,” said coach Hardy Sauter. “I really like the fact that we have started to win on the road too.”

Spokane (7-6-1) got goals from Stefan Ulmer, Kyle Beach, and Tyler Johnson. Mitch Wahl and Blake Gal each had two assists.

Portland (13-6) killed off a 5-on-3 power play early in the first period, but failed to score on any of its power-play chances, finishing 0-for-4.

Spokane finished 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

Kurtis Mucha stopped 32 shots in taking the loss.
