Vandals make tourney

Idaho stretched its Western Athletic Conference winning streak to six with a 25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 25-16 volleyball win over Louisiana Tech on Thursday in Ruston, La.

Sarah Conwell had her WAC-leading 13th double-double of the season (18 kills, 10 digs). Cassie Hamilton also had a double-double (17 kills, 11 digs) for the Vandals (13-12, 9-3), who clinched a spot in the WAC tournament.

UI’s Anna McKinney and Debbie Pederson each had seven blocks.

Idaho can move into second place with a road win against New Mexico State (15-8, 10-3) Saturday.

•Gonzaga (9-14, 4-5 West Coast Conference) had won two straight five-set matches, but Loyola Marymount (11-13, 2-8) turned the tables on the visiting Bulldogs with a 24-26, 25-9, 17-25, 25-23, 15-10 win at Gersten Pavilion.

Senior Michelle Boevers led GU with 16 kills and senior Layne Brosky added 10. Kelsey Bashaw finished with nine kills, 25 assists and six digs.

Alaina Bergsma paced the Lions with 32 kills

Men’s basketball

North Idaho College used a big second half to rally past the North Idaho All-Stars 72-59 at Christianson Gym.

Sophomore forward Renado Parker had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Logan Jones and Taylor Stevens each chipped in 11 points for NIC, which outscored the All-Stars 39-22 in the final 20 minutes.

NIC won the rebounding battle 55-43 and survived 12 3-pointers by the All-Stars.

Ex-Cardinal Shea Bradshaw made six 3-pointers and led the All-Stars with 18 points. Foluke Tobin added 10 points and eight boards.

Women’s basketball

Laura McLellan scored 18 points and Sami Whitcomb added 15 as the Washington Huskies held off Seattle Pacific 69-61 in an exhibition game at Bank of America Arena.

The Huskies made 14 free throws to the Falcons’ six.

Daesha Henderson poured in 26 points for SPU.
