In brief: City Council won’t meet on Tuesday
SPOKANE VALLEY – There will be no Spokane Valley City Council meeting Tuesday because most members will be attending a National League of Cities conference in San Antonio.
Mayor Rich Munson and council members Rose Dempsey, Bill Gothmann, Gary Schimmels and Diana Wilhite will attend the conference, which runs Tuesday through Saturday.
Tuesday’s meeting cancellation will be the second in a row. This week’s meeting was canceled so Munson, Wilhite and Ian Robertson could focus on election night results – in which all three were defeated.
Because Robertson was recently appointed to a vacancy on an interim basis, his replacement, Dean Grafos, will take office as soon as the election results are certified.
Grafos’ first council meeting is expected to be Dec. 1.

Church donated 3,311 pounds of food
SPOKANE VALLEY – The congregation of the Veradale United Church of Christ was able to harvest 3,311 pounds of produce for the Spokane Valley Partners Food Bank this year. Volunteers donated 2,030 pounds last year and were hoping to hit 3,000 pounds this year. Several hundred pounds of additional produce went to church members and other community members directly.
The garden, now in its third year, was expanded this growing season and planted with everything from tomatoes to peas to squash. Volunteers harvested produce for the food bank twice a week.
