Roundup: Cougar women win final tuneup

Four Cougars scored in double figures as Washington State wrapped up its exhibition slate Sunday with a 94-52 win over Eastern Oregon at Beasley Coliseum.

Sophomore guard April Cook led WSU with 17 points. Junior center Katie Madison and sophomore guard Jazmine Perkins added 16 points each and freshman center Carly Noyes scored 12. Perkins led the Cougars with nine rebounds and five steals.

The Cougars tallied 20 assists, recorded 12 steals and outrebounded the Mountaineers 56-23.

Ashlee Michelson (North Central) led Eastern Oregon with 14 points, and Salena Leavitt (Central Valley) paced the Mountaineers with four assists.

Washington State opens its season Sunday at Beasley Coliseum against UC Davis. Tipoff is 2 p.m.

College women’s soccer

Washington State ended its regular season with a 2-0 loss to third-ranked UCLA in Pac-10 play in Pullman.

The No. 13 Cougars (13-5-2, 5-2-2 Pac-10) will find out their postseason fate today. The NCAA selection show is at 5 p.m. on ESPNews.

WSU finished third in the conference standings; last season, the Pac-10 had five teams selected for the NCAA tournament.

•Alex Kirk scored twice in her final game at Husky Soccer Field as Washington played No. 19 USC to a 2-2 draw in Pac-10 play in Seattle.

The Huskies (11-5-4, 3-3-3 Pac-10), who finished in fifth place in the conference, are hoping for their third consecutive postseason berth.

College men’s soccer

J.T. Howlan’s conversion of a penalty kick gave San Diego a 1-0 West Coast Conference win over Gonzaga in San Diego.

The Bulldogs (6-9-3, 3-7-1 WCC), who have lost four of their past five matches, had just three shots while allowing the Toreros 14.

Gonzaga finishes its regular season Friday at 1 p.m. at home against San Francisco.

•David Estrada scored in the 82nd minute to give No. 5 UCLA a 2-1 victory over Washington in Pac-10 action in Los Angeles. Jamie Finch scored his first career goal for the Huskies (5-6-6, 2-2-5 Pac-10).

College football

Central Washington (11-0), the only undefeated team in NCAA Division II football, was selected as the No. 1 seed in the Super Region Four and received a first-round bye in the NCAA playoffs.

The Wildcats will play their first playoff game Nov. 21 at noon in Ellensburg against the winner between Texas A&M-Kingsville and Tarleton State.

Central is in the playoffs for the third straight season.

Rowing

Gonzaga’s men’s and women’s crews and Washington State’s women’s team finished their fall seasons at the Head of the Lake Regatta in Seattle.

For the Gonzaga men, the Varsity 8+ finished sixth, the Junior Varsity 8+ finished third and the Third Varsity 8+ finished second.

For the Gonzaga women, the Varsity 8+ and Junior Varsity 8+ finished third, and the A and B boats finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the Third Varsity 8+.

For the Cougars, the A and B boats finished first and third, respectively, in the Third Varsity 8+, and the Varsity 8+ and Junior Varisty 8+ finished second.
