Bantams bow out

Colby Hansen punched in his fourth touchdown from just outside the goal line with 4:51 remaining and brought Clarkston (6-6) to within a field goal of top-ranked Ellensburg in their State 2A first-round game, but the Bantams would not get any closer, allowing a score three minutes later, falling 45-35 in Ellensburg.

The Bantams had 179 net yards rushing – Hansen logged 196 – but they allowed 323 yards through the air to the Ethan Sterkel, who also passed for four scores.

State 2B

La Salle 48, Reardan 26: Chace Bell threw for 129 yards, rushed for 122 and scored a pair of touchdowns, but the Indians struggled to contain Mike McGree, who threw for 107 yards and helped the Lightning strike early with a pair of unanswered TDs in the first quarter.

The Indians (5-5) took a brief lead in the second, but La Salle scored before halftime, then put it away with 21 consecutive points in the second half.

State 1B play-ins

Cusick 60, Odessa 6: Spencer Shanholtzer threw for five TDs and finished with 260 all-purpose yards as the Panthers (11-0) cruised against the Tigers (6-5) in Newport to advance to the eight-team state playoffs. Cusick will play Colton next Saturday at 1 p.m. in Newport.

The Panthers held Odessa to 29 yards of total offense.

Colton 40, Columbia 8: Sam Robertson rushed for 179 yards and Josh Straughan passed for 173 and four touchdowns, hitting Chase Druffel three times for scores, for the Wildcats (9-1) against the Lions (8-3) in Colton.

Through the regular season, the Lions averaged 46 points per game, but could manage only eight against Colton.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 36, Touchet 20: Trailing by four at halftime, the Warriors (10-1) scored 20 unanswered points in the second half against the visiting Indians (4-6) with two TDs from Derek Isaak, who also combined for 227 yards rushing and passing.
