Group seeks gift boxes for kids

Residents and staff at Alderwood Manor, 3600 E. Hartson Ave., are collecting boxes for “Operation Christmas Child.” They are reaching out to the community to help them reach their goal to fill 1,500 boxes.

Sturdy shoe boxes, filled with small toys, hard candy, school supplies, and personal hygiene items, including toothpaste, toothbrushes, and soap are needed, along with $7 per box for shipping and transportation charges.

Operation Christmas Child is a worldwide campaign that provides gifts to children in need. Gifts collected by Alderwood Manor will be distributed to children in war-torn and poverty-stricken countries by Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian relief organization headed by Franklin Graham.

Boxes can be dropped off at Alderwood Manor, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
