Tigers edged in shootout

Lewis and Clark outshot Kamiakin 14-4 and held the edge in possession for most of the game, but Braves goalkeeper Madi Meyer made a key save in the shootout to deny the Tigers their first trip to the Final Four in a 2-1 win at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick.

Bev Amstadter gave LC a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute, taking a pass from Sarah Barrentine and slipping between two defenders to beat Meyer with a low shot.

Braves midfielder Kristyn Bohlander scored directly off a well-placed corner kick in front of the goal that bounced off a Tigers defender.

“I thought my team did everything, we just couldn’t poke one home,” LC coach Casey Curtis said. “We dominated the game and possession, but just weren’t able to get the goal to win it.”

LC dominated possession in the second half, outshooting Kamiakin 9-2, but couldn’t convert any chances.

“We sort of got lucky a few times,” Kamiakin coach Chris Erickson said. “That first goal wasn’t the scariest, either.”

In the shootout, Meyer stopped the Tigers’ first shot by Caylin Novell, and Julia Moravec’s fourth-round shot went wide left.

Kamiakin hit all four kicks in the shootout, with Brianna Brannan clinching the win with her fourth-round conversion.

Boys soccer

St. George’s may have swept Northwest Christian during the regular season by a combined score of 8-2 and won again 2-0 in the regional tournament, but the Crusaders turned things around in the fourth meeting between the conference rivals in the State 2B/1B quarterfinals, beating the Dragons 1-0 in overtime at Gonzaga Prep.

Playing scoreless soccer through regulation, the Crusaders found the break they needed as Josh Gallegos took a throw in and found freshman Austin Friedly, who drilled the winner in the 85th minute.
