Roundup: Cougs cruise past Eagles

Thirteen turned out to be a lucky number for the Washington State Cougars volleyball team Tuesday in Pullman.

Rachel Todorovich piled up 13 kills and Jackie Albright and Oceana Bush each totaled 13 digs to power the Cougars (17-10) to a 25-20, 25-13, 25-21 sweep over the Eastern Washington Eagles (17-10) in a non-conference match.

Hayley Hills tallied nine kills and 13 digs to pace Eastern.

Renee Bordelon had 41 assists for WSU.

Women’s basketball

Gonzaga Bulldogs coach Kelly Graves announced the signing of Mead High School’s Jazmine Redmon and two others for next season.

Redmon is a 5-foot-9 guard who averaged 17.8 points per game as a junior last season and earned Greater Spokane League MVP honors.

Joining Redmon are Stephanie Golden, a 6-foot-3 center from Miramonte High School in Orinda, Calif., and Danielle Walters a 6-foot guard from Pasco HS.

Men’s basketball

Montana State coach Brad Huse has announced that forward Shawn Reid of Post Falls has signed a letter of intent to join the Bobcats for the 2010-11 season.

The 6-5 Reid averaged 13 points and nine rebounds as a junior last season.

•Washington State Cougars coach Ken Bone announced that 6-4 guard Faisal Aden has signed a letter of intent to play for the Cougars next season.

Aden is in his second season at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla.

Men’s soccer

The Whitworth Pirates will play Hardin-Simmons (Texas) in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III tournament.

The match will take place at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.

Loras will play Dominican University (Ill.) in the other half of the sectional. The winners will play at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Cross country

Whitworth coach Toby Schwarz has been named the women’s NCAA Division III West Region coach of the year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Whitworth won the West Regional title last Saturday for the second time in school history to earn its second bid to the national championships. The nationals will be hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College near Cleveland on Saturday.
