Fresh Sheet: Trezzi ushers in new era for wine

Last year under a cold October sky, Davide and Stephanie Trezzi and their friends harvested the first barbera wine grapes from the small vineyard near the modern red barn that serves as their catering kitchen and home at Green Bluff.

Trezzi’s friend, winemaker Don Townshend of Townshend Cellars, ushered the grapes from harvest to barrel to bottle.

This weekend, the couple will open their new tasting room and introduce wine made from those Green Bluff grapes to the community.

Trezzi Farm Food & Wine, 17700 N. Dunn Road, Green Bluff, will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. No one under 21 is allowed.

There will be a $3 tasting fee for the wine that will be credited toward any purchases. For more information, call (509) 238-2276.

Holiday Wine Festival

Get a jump on holiday shopping, or pick up wine for your holiday table at the Spokane Winery Association’s Holiday Wine Festival.

Each year, local wineries open Friday, Saturday and Sunday the week before Thanksgiving to offer barrel tasting, gourmet food pairings and entertainment.

Fourteen wineries will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. You can sample current vintages, taste gourmet food pairings, take advantage of discounts and talk to the winemakers.

Maps of participating locations are available at each winery, or find all of the Spokane wineries, along with a map to each tasting room, online at www.spokane wineries.net.

Although Barili Cellars is listed, it will not be open for the festival, owners said in a message to customers. Their current vintage wines are sold out and new wines will be ready for release in the spring.

Many of the wineries charge a tasting fee for wine samples. Most are $5 or less. Check with individual wineries for details.
