In brief: CYT to present ‘Toyland’

CHIEF GARRY PARK – Spokane Children’s Theatre will perform “Babes in Toyland,” opening Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Lair Auditorium, at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St.

Additional performances will be Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 at 1 p.m., Dec. 5 and Dec. 6 and 1 and 4 p.m., Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. , and Dec. 13 at 1 p.m. Performances on Dec 12 will be signed for the hearing impaired

Tickets are $10 per person and $8 for children. Tickets may be purchased by calling (800) 325-SEAT or online at www.TicketsWest.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.

Empyrean hosting musical benefit

RIVERSIDE – Members of the community can help feed the hungry in the spirit of Thanksgiving on Tuesday and enjoy local music, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Empyrean Coffee House, 154 S. Madison St.

Acoustic guitar singer/songwriters Eric Hofmann, Adam Kogler and Tommy G from the 509 will start the show. Groove Patrol will take the stage at 9:30 p.m. and play until midnight.

Cover is $7 per person; every can of food donated is a $1 discount, up to $5.

All proceeds and donated food will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Spokane.

People of all ages are invited to attend. Minors are not allowed past 11 p.m.

Riverfront Park gift pack available

RIVERSIDE – The IMAX at Riverfront Park will begin selling “The Light Before Christmas” holiday gift package on Friday.

The $10 package includes one ticket to the new IMAX feature “The Light Before Christmas,” one skate admission and rental, one round of miniature golf, and one ride of the Looff Carrousel. The package will be available through Jan. 3.

Salvation Army giving out turkeys

LOGAN – The Salvation Army, 222 E. Indiana Ave., will hand out more than 8,200 turkeys to families in need for Thanksgiving on Tuesday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The turkeys, along with fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving meal, have been donated by the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Inland Northwest.

Identification for all family members and proof of address are requested.

Tuesday’s Thanksgiving distribution is the largest in Spokane.

Donate food, run in Turkey Trot

MANITO – The annual Bloomsday Road Runners Club Turkey Trot will be on Thanksgiving at Manito Park. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the picnic area across from the Manito Park Duck Pond.

There is no fee, but runners are asked to bring a food or money donation for Second Harvest Food Bank.

SpokAnimal fundraiser planned

PEACEFUL VALLEY – Beginning at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving, the SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. staff will host a dog walk at High Bridge Park.

The event is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted for the dog park fence for Spokane’s first off-leash city dog park.

Participants should meet in Peaceful Valley at Riverside and Clarke Avenue near the Sandifur Bridge. All dogs must be leashed. Owners are responsible for bringing and using cleanup bags.

Elite shops host open house/benefit

Latah – Elite Tan, Elite Fitness and Elite Salon and Spa, 4241 S. Cheney- Spokane Road, will have an open house Nov. 27, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

David Madvin, the owner of Elite Group will donate 10 percent of the proceeds to the Stanelun-Picken family. Sean Stanelun’s struggle with flesh-eating bacteria was featured in an Oct. 29 Voice story, and his health problems continue. Dana Haynes, maker of Dandles candles, will donate two gift baskets. A silent auction will also be held. All proceeds from the auction and the sale of the baskets will be donated to the family.
