Connecticut tops Notre Dame

The Connecticut Huskies finally won one for their slain teammate on Saturday, handing Notre Dame and coach Charlie Weis a bitter defeat on senior day at South Bend, Ind.

Andre Dixon scored on a 4-yard touchdown run in the second overtime to give the Huskies the victory, their first since cornerback Jasper Howard was stabbed to death.

“Jazz this is for you,” coach Randy Edsall said, referring to Howard by his nickname.

The loss was the third straight for Notre Dame (6-5) and will add to the mounting calls for Weis to be fired. The Irish led 14-0 early in the second quarter but didn’t score another touchdown until the first OT.

The Huskies (5-5) had lost three straight close games since Howard was killed. This time they made the plays at the end to win.

Nebraska 17, Kansas State 3: Roy Helu Jr. ran 26 times for 95 yards and a touchdown, and the Cornhuskers defeated the Wildcats (6-6, 4-4) Nebraska defeated Kansas State 17-3 to win the Big 12 North at Lincoln, Neb.

The Huskers (8-3, 5-2) will play in the conference championship game for the first time since 2006 and fifth time in the Big 12’s 14 years. They’ll face the South champion Dec. 5 in Arlington, Texas.

Texas Tech 41, Oklahoma 13: Taylor Potts threw for 388 yards and two touchdowns as Red Raiders (7-4, 4-3) beat the Sooners at Lubbock, Texas, for their most lopsided win ever over the Oklahoma (6-5, 4-3 Big 12).

Texas A&M 38, Baylor 3: Freshman Christine Michael scored on a 97-yard run for the longest play from scrimmage in school history and the Aggies secured bowl eligibility with a win over the Bears (4-7, 1-6 Big 12) at College Station, Texas.

A&M (6-5, 3-4) rushed for a season-high 375 yards against the Big 12’s worst run defense.

Army 17, North Texas 13: Trent Steelman rushed for 132 yards and scored the winning touchdown with 1:43 left, and the Black Knights (5-6) kept their postseason hopes alive by beating the Mean Green (2-9) at Denton, Texas.

Marshall 34, SMU 31: Brian Anderson threw two second-half touchdown passes to freshman Aaron Dobson to lead the Thundering Herd to a win over the Mustangs (6-5, 5-2 Conference USA) at Huntington, W.Va, making Marshall (6-5, 4-3) bowl eligible.

Harvard 14, Yale 10: Collier Winters threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns as the Crimson (7-3, 6-1 Ivy) came back from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the rival Bulldogs (4-6, 2-5) at New Haven, Conn.

W. Liberty 84, Edinboro 63: Zach Amedro threw for 540 yards and six touchdowns, Kevon Calhoun ran for 173 yards and four more scores, and the Hilltoppers (11-1) outlasted the Fighting Scots (9-4) in the second round of the Division II playoffs at West Liberty, W.Va.

The teams combined for 1,394 yards of total offense, breaking the previous division record of 1,369.
