Lake City High collecting food

Lake City High School is helping people in need and getting into the holiday spirit with its annual food drive.

LCHS students and staff will be collecting nonperishable food, frozen turkeys and used cell phones through Wednesday.

Scholarship opportunities for seniors

Now is the time for Idaho high school seniors to start looking toward their future.

The Idaho State Board of Education Student Affairs is now accepting applications for online scholarships. Scholarship opportunities for high school seniors include: the Governor’s Cup Scholarship, the Robert R. Lee Promise Category A Scholarship and the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship.

North Idaho students show off math skills

Students at North Idaho high schools participated at the North Idaho College Math Contest on Nov. 3.

High schoolers from Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, Lake City High School, Coeur d’Alene High School, Lakeland High School, Post Falls High School, Sandpoint High School, Kootenai High School, Potlatch High School and Timberlake Junior/Senior High School participated in the competition and were tested in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, the basics of calculus, probability, and the math of computers and logic.

Winners of the NIC math department’s 28th annual competition include:

Division I (large school): 1, Sandpoint; 2, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy; 3, Lakeland High School. Division II (small school): 1, Timberlake; 2, Kootenai; 3, Potlatch.

Individual winners Division I – Seniors category include: 1, Andy Schwartzmeyer, Post Falls; 2, Ryan Ward, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy; 3, Tommy Jacobs, Sandpoint.

Division II – Seniors winners: 1, Cody Brown, Potlatch; 2, Celeste Cooley, Potlatch; 3, Emmy Sheffler, Potlatch. Honorable mention: Britta Grubham, Kootenai; Caleb Lynch, Timberlake; Rachel Pagel, Potlatch.

Division I – Nonsenior winners: 1, Lewis Ellis, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy; 2, Adam Burkhalter, Lakeland; 3, Jake Orr, Post Falls.

Division II – Nonsenior winners: 1, Ben Odell, Timberlake; 2, Nick Johnson, Potlatch; 3, Isaac Curtis, Potlatch.
