One more night for Banff Mountain Film Festival

A few $10 tickets were still available for tonight’s screening at the Bing Crosby Theater of outdoor adventure and culture flicks from the Banff Mountain Film Festival. The festival’s World Tour was a sellout on Friday and Saturday. The three-day run in Spokane ends tonight with at least five films set to begin at 6 p.m. Different films are shown each evening. Tickets are available today at Mountain Gear. The first two evenings have taken the audience around the world on epic adventures. Last night, for example, they saddled up with Mongolian children in a rugged traditional horse race and then they hopped aboard a rowboat with a British woman as she soloed her way across the Atlantic. Along with the feature films is a captivating mix of action including adventurous skiers, paddlers, climbers and others. One film shown on Saturday night followed a group of skiing paragliders in a 10-minute descent — filmed in one continuous shot — from Mont Blanc to the valley below in Chamonix, France. One of the most cleverly crafted films resulted from a contest in France to shoot five action mountain sports in five days. The five-minute film kept the audience riveted to the action of skiers, snowboarders, paragliders and an ice climber. Like many of the best action films, it had a stunning finish that brought the crowd to a roar as the video suddenly ends with all the athletes captured doing their thing in one click of perfect timing in the frame of a still-action camera.
