Cathedral of St. John hosts interfaith service

The Spokane Interfaith Council will host the annual Thanksgiving Interfaith service today at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave.

The guest speaker, Venerable Thubten Chonyi of the Sravasti Abbey in Newport, Wash., will speak on the topic of compassion.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item for the Second Harvest Food Bank.

The service will include offerings from many different faiths and languages.

Community Thanksgiving dinner

St. Aloysius Parish, Gonzaga University and Sodexho will hold their seventh annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner today from noon until 2 p.m. at Cataldo Hall, 429 E. Boone Ave.

The dinner is free and open to anyone.

Candlelight vigil

Catholic Charities will hold a candlelight vigil to raise awareness of the effects of poverty and homelessness in the community Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the House of Charity, 32 W. Pacific Ave.

Christmas concerts

Midnight Cry, an eight-piece Christmas band, will perform in six concerts throughout the area in the coming weeks.

The band will be at Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th Ave., Sunday at 6:30 p.m.; First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., Dec. 6 at 9 and 10:45 a.m.; Northview Bible Church, 13521 N. Mill Road, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m.; Westgate Christian Church, 7111 N. Nine Mile Road, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.; Northside Church of Christ, 5601 N. Jefferson St., Dec. 19 at 6 p.m.; and Sunrise Church of Christ, 4718 N. Ash, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m.

The concerts are free.

Choral prayer service

Choretour will present a Choral Prayer Service for Peace Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Convent of the Holy Names Chapel, 2911 W. Fort Wright Drive.

The service will include Scripture readings and reflective music.
