Alexie, Walter team up for Auntie’s appearance

Sun., Nov. 29, 2009

Those who have attended readings by Jess Walter or Sherman Alexie know that both are funny and entertaining speakers – in addition to being world-class novelists.

So when two of the region’s leading literary figures get together, you can expect plenty of high-level banter.

Walter and Alexie will make a joint appearance Saturday at 2 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main Ave.

This is a ticketed event. To get a ticket, you need merely go to Auntie’s and purchase one of their books.

Walter’s latest is “Financial Lives of the Poets.” Alexie’s is “War Dances.”

Bing book

Also on Saturday, Carolyn Schneider will sign copies of her latest book, “Bing: On the Road to Elko,” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Auntie’s.

Schneider is Bing Crosby’s niece. Her book is about the Crosby family’s life on Bing’s Nevada cattle ranches.

‘Elvis’ memories

The big event at Auntie’s today will be a reading at 12:30 p.m. by Spokane’s Judy Palmer Bendewald, who has written a book that has Elvis Presley fans drooling: “My Treasured Memories of Elvis.”

Bendewald was an Elvis “superfan” for decades and met him a number of times – including being kissed by him four times on stage.

She’ll share her stories and pictures at today’s reading.
