Concerts planned this week at churches

Music is in the air this week as two Spokane Valley churches prepare to host concerts. Several Christian bands will perform today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Spokane Valley Wesleyan Church in an event for youth.

Groups scheduled to perform include Modern Dissent, The VanMarter Project and JCS Unified. Admission is free and all are welcome. The church is at 16607 E. Broadway.

•Guitarist Paul Grove will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday at Millwood Presbyterian Church as part of the Music at Millwood concert series. Those attending are asked to bring a can of food for the Valley Food Bank. The church is at 3223 N. Marguerite Road.

Breakfast

The Happy Helpers group at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave., will host a breakfast fundraiser from 7 to 11 a.m. Sunday. The menu includes pancakes, homemade applesauce and sausage. The meal is by donation.

The group performs maintenance at the church and the annual breakfast is their primary fundraiser.

Sit, Fido

The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 15319 E. Eighth Ave., will host its annual pet blessing following the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday. Those bringing their animal friends must have them appropriately caged, leashed or restrained. Children without a four legged friend are invited to bring their favorite stuffed animal for a special blessing.

Food distribution

Second Harvest Food Bank is teaming with East Valley Baptist Church to offer free food distribution on Tuesday for anyone who needs food.

No paperwork is required and no appointment is necessary. The distribution will last from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 14516 E. Wellesley Ave. Those attending are asked to bring boxes to take their food home.
