Bearcats thump Pirates

Kevin Ramay hit Scott Schoettgen for a pair of touchdown passes and the 18th-ranked Willamette Bearcats jumped out to a big early lead and rolled to a 42-13 victory over the Whitworth Pirates in Northwest Conference play Saturday in Salem, Ore.

The Bearcats (4-1, 1-0) led 14-0 after the first quarter on a 26-yard TD run by Deon Horne and a 14-yard fumble return by Ralph Pineda. Williamette led 21-0 at the half when Ramay connected with Schoettgen from 20 yards out with 48 seconds left in the second.

The Wildcats led 28-0 before the Pirates (2-3, 0-1) finally put some points on the scoreboard. Eric Entel caught a 35-yard pass from Andrew Durant with 7:25 left in the third quarter to make it 28-7.

Whitworth trailed 35-7 when it found the end zone for the final time on a 1-yard plunge by Milton Nelson with 11:05 left in the game.

The Whits head home to host eighth-ranked Linfield on Saturday.

Central Washington 37, Dixie State 6: The fifth-ranked Wildcats (6-0, 1-0) scored 34 unanswered points and held their opponent to negative rushing yards en route a victory over the Red Storm (2-4, 1-2) in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play in Ellensburg.

It was CWU’s 12th straight regular-season win and 26th straight of a GNAC opponent.

Carroll 37, Eastern Oregon 17: Former Coeur d’Alene High School standout Gabe Le and John Camino each ran for a pair of touchdowns to lead the Fighting Saints (6-0, 5-0) past the Mountaineers (4-2, 4-1) in Frontier Conference play in Helena.

Camino finished with 191 yards on 21 carries, while Le rushed for 91 yards on 16 totes.

Pacific Lutheran 43, Lewis & Clark 14: The Lutes (1-2, 1-0) scored on their first six possessions and rolled to a win over the Pioneers (0-3, 0-1) in Northwest Conference action in Puyallup, Wash.
