Center celebrates 50th anniversary

Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, 6910 S. Ben Burr Road, will celebrate its 50th anniversary Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. with a tradition from the ’50s and ’60s, Diocesan Mary Days.

Bishop William Skylstad, Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church, clergy and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Living Rosary members and laity will move in procession to the Rosary Garden, singing Marian hymns, reciting the Living Rosary, renewing the Diocese Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and Crowning of Our Lady of Fatima.

The consecration was performed for many years by Bishop Bernard Topel in the 1950s and ’60s.

Poor Man’s Meal

Catholic Charities of Spokane will present the 24th Annual Poor Man’s Meal to benefit the House of Charity Sleeping Program Saturday at the House of Charity, 32 W. Pacific Ave., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The meal will include homemade chicken tortilla soup and there will be tours of the facility starting at 12:15 p.m.
