Rocha sparks Pirates

Kami Rocha finished with a double-double – 15 kills, 14 digs – to spark the Whitworth Pirates to a 25-12, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16 win over the Whitman Missionaries in Northwest Conference volleyball play on Wednesday in Walla Walla.

Morgan Veleke had 11 kills and Ariana Obert piled up 17 digs for Whitworth (6-12, 2-5).

Alex Graves had a match-high 17 kills for Whitman (4-9, 1-6).

•Kasey Jurich and Beth Altena posted 17 kills apiece and the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (20-8, 6-0) posted a 28-26, 25-15, 22-25, 25-23 victory over the Wenatchee Valley Knights (11-11, 4-2) in NWAACC play in Wenatchee.

Women’s soccer

Courtney Stewart netted a pair of goals and Kaylee Kelly and Mandy Schmedding each added a goal and an assist as the CC Spokane Sasquatch (4-2-2, 4-1-1) romped to a 7-1 victory over the Yakima Valley Yaks (0-6-1, 0-6-1) in NWAACC action at Spokane Falls CC.

Cori Jo Young, Jaymian Stuermer and Itzia Mendoza also scored goals for the Sasquatch, who outshot the Yaks 35-3 for the match.

Men’s soccer

Goalkeeper Ryan Skay turned aside eight shots on goal to help the CC Spokane Sasquatch (4-6-1) earn a 0-0 non-conference tie with the North Idaho Cardinals (3-7-2) at Spokane Falls CC.

North Idaho goalkeeper Chris Hollman made four saves to help preserve the tie.

Women’s golf

Kayla Mortellaro tied for 10th place with a three-round total of 12-over-par 228 to help the Idaho Vandals place ninth at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.

Ali Thompson and Kristen Allard both finished tied for 41st at 237 for 10th-place Washington State.

California won the team title, 15 strokes better than runner-up Stanford.

San Jose State’s Katrina Briones shot a 3-over 219 to earn medalist honors.

Athletes of week

Idaho Vandals sophomore Teegan Schoch was honored as the Western Athletic Conference’s women’s cross country athlete of the week.

Schoch won the Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational on Saturday.

•Two Whitworth athletes earned honors. Dana Misterek, a sophomore, was named the Northwest Conference’s women’s cross country athlete of the week. She was the first NCAA Division III runner – fifth overall – to finish at the Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational.

Elly Bulega, a senior, was named the NWC men’s soccer athlete of the week. He scored two goals in a win against Linfield.
