Prep roundup: Pullman beats WV to set pace in GNL

Stephanie Logan totaled nine kills and teammate Katie Guttinger handed out a match-high 32 assists as Pullman turned back visiting West Valley 3-1 in an important Great Northern League volleyball match Thursday.

The win kept the Greyhounds unbeaten in league and alone atop the GNL standings.

West Valley lost for only the second time, despite getting 10 kills from Bailey Wold and 27 assists from Brooklyn Robinson.

Elsewhere in the GNL: Shaley Ham finished with a team-high 13 kills and teammate Ryen Pilialoha came up with 10 digs as visiting Cheney (3-5) edged past Riverside 3-2, winning the last game 15-5. Joni Nagy had 17 kills, 15 digs and four aces for Riverside (4-4). … Gabriel Daily powered her way to 11 kills and teammate Myryda Johnson finished with 14 assists, nine digs and four aces as Medical Lake (1-7) picked up its first win of the year by dumping visiting Deer Park 3-1.

Intermountain League: Visiting St. Maries used Miriah Gladden’s nine blocks and Tia Asbury’s nine digs to dominate on defense and remain unbeaten in seven league matches by rolling to a 3-0 win at Orofino. … Hailey Fuller set the tone by serving eight straight points in the first game and teammate Hayley Young came up with 17 digs as Kellogg swept past visiting Timberlake 3-0. Kirsten Biche finished with five kills and nine assists for the winners.

•Inland Empire League: Savannah Blinn blistered visiting Lake City with 34 kills and teammate Jennifer Schlader dished out 49 assists as Lewiston edged the Timberwolves 3-2 and earned the No. 2 seed in the 5A Region I tournament that starts Oct. 17.

•Greater Spokane League: Ferris used 15 kills from Kirsten Harrison and 23 digs from Jamie Coelho to slip past visiting East Valley 3-2 in a non-league affair.

Girls soccer

•Great Northern League: Cheney’s Kellie Zakrzewski scored three goals and raised her season total to 23 as the league-leading Blackhawks (9-1, 7-1) handed visiting Pullman (8-1, 6-1) a 3-0 loss. Zakrzewski scored twice in the first half and capped her hat-trick effort with a second-half goal on a corner kick. … West Valley senior DeeDee Garbe scored three goals for the fourth time this fall and raised her season total to 17 in propelling the Eagles (7-2, 6-2) to a 3-0 win over visiting Deer Park (4-5, 4-4). … Medical Lake (4-4, 4-3) scored a pair of first-half goals, one on a corner kick by Samantha Kelley that deflected off a Riverside player, and went on to turn back the visiting Rams (0-9, 0-8) 2-0.

Inland Empire League: Sandpoint’s McKinzi Obaitek scored with her off foot on a nifty pass from teammate Meghan Pagano in the 24th minute and goalkeeper Bryce Clark recorded her seventh shutout of the season as the Bulldogs (10-4-2) tuned up for next week’s 4A regional tournament by blanking visiting 5A Coeur d’Alene (8-5-3) 1-0 in a non-league match.

Boys soccer

•Inland Empire League: Post Falls (10-4-2, 5-1) used goals from Tyler Lalk, Scott Benner, Charlie Redline and Shae Sainsbury to put away visiting Lakeland (3-12-2, 0-4) 4-0. Wes Billingslea finished with two assists for the Trojans.
