Backer should think twice

The Spokesman-Review

Although it may have been drafted with good intentions, the Community Bill of Rights, which has become Proposition 4, is a poorly drafted and thoughtless document that would, if implemented, result in a financial debacle for Spokane city government and the citizens it serves.

What puzzles me about this effort to circumvent our established government is why Jim Sheehan would not only endorse such a misguided proposal but also become its major financial backer. Jim has done great things for the disenfranchised of our community with the Center for Justice and other public interest endeavors. However, Proposition 4 is not worthy of his sponsorship.

I encourage Jim to publicly withdraw his support for this reckless proposal before community backlash marginalizes his positive work.
