Otis Orchards Elementary earns $25,000 OSPI grant

Otis Orchards Elementary is one of only five elementary schools in the state recently awarded a $25,000 Apple Award Construction Achievement grant from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

The award is based on academic improvement on state assessments over the last two years, school size and geographic location.

This is one award where students have a say in how the money is spent. Students will select a project to be funded, subject to approval by the East Valley School District and OSPI. Past recipients have used their grants for such items as playground equipment, a traverse wall, a greenhouse kit and a jungle gym.

Concert

Central Valley High School will host its first concert of the year, the Fall Choral Concert, at 7 p.m. Thursday. Admission is free, but seating is limited. The school is at 821 S. Sullivan Road.
