In brief: Health staff fight vaccination order

From Wire Reports

Melville, N.Y. – Health care providers from throughout Long Island, N.Y., gathered on the lawn of Suffolk County’s Health Department on Saturday in a second day of protests against the state’s mandatory flu-vaccination order.

Certain health care personnel – those in hospitals and a few other venues – must undergo vaccination for seasonal and swine flu or risk losing their jobs.

Demonstrators insisted the swine flu vaccine is unsafe – a charge vigorously denied by health officials who point to a roster of successful clinical trials. Officials also emphasize the vaccine is produced by the same manufacturers responsible for the seasonal flu inoculation taken by 100 million people annually.

Fiancee mistaken for intruder, killed

Winter Springs, Fla. – It was about 2:30 Friday morning, and John Tabbutt thought he heard an intruder.

He got his .38-caliber revolver, saw a figure in the hallway and fired a shot. But the person he shot was no intruder. It was Nancy Dinsmore, his live-in fiancee, the woman he was to marry the next day.

Dinsmore died on the hallway floor from a single gunshot wound to the chest, Winter Springs police Chief Kevin Brunelle said.

Dinsmore and Tabbutt, both 62, were to be married Saturday at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Winter Springs.
