Holiday mainly affects federal offices

The Spokesman-Review
Columbus Day, a federal holiday commemorating the explorer’s landing in the New World, is closing few other offices today. Banks, credit unions, the post office and other federal offices are closed. City and state governments are open, which means garbage pickup will remain on schedule. City and county libraries also are open. However, parking meters in Spokane do not have to be fed today. Schools, which were closed Friday in Washington for a statewide learning improvement day, are open.
