Three things we’ll be talking about this week

1Health care, Social Security and other issues of concern to seniors will be on the agenda at a town hall meeting today with Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers in Spokane Valley. The meeting will start at 4 p.m. at University High School, 12420 E. 32nd Ave., and is scheduled to conclude by 5:30. The public is invited.

2The latest movie to be filmed in Spokane is expected to begin shooting Friday. The cast list for “The Big Bang,” directed by Antonio Banderas, includes Sam Elliott, Snoop Dogg and Rebecca Mader (Charlotte Lewis of TV’s “Lost”). It’ll take about four weeks to film the movie, about a private eye searching for a missing woman – with a dose of particle physics.

3Speaking of films, fans of classic movies will have a full plate this week. Frank Capra’s “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” will be shown Tuesday at 7:30 at the Bing Crosby Theater. Admission is free, but donations to the theater are being accepted. On Wednesday, Alfred Hitchcock’s “Strangers on a Train” will be shown free at the downtown Spokane library at 5:30.
