Roundup: First-place Braves turn back Rebels

 

Joel Stewart scored twice and Cash Ulrich made 22 saves Tuesday as the Spokane Braves (9-4-0-1) defeated the Castlegar Rebels 4-2 in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League play at Castlegar, British Columbia.

The Braves, on a three-game winning streak, lead the Kootenay Conference’s Neil Murdoch Division. The Rebels are 5-4-1-1, including two previous wins over Spokane.

Men’s golf

The final round of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational was canceled because of standing water on the greens of the Fairfax (Calif.) Meadow Club.

Freshman Hank Frame (University High) led Washington State, which finished 11th overall on the par-71 6,708-yard course. Frame had seven birdies and a two-round total of 141, leaving him tied for 26th.

Medalist Stephen Hale (132) led California to the team title.

Women’s soccer

Eastern Washington University goalkeeper Lisa Dimak was named Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week after posting two shutouts.
