People’s voice stifled

The Spokesman-Review

It was noted on the Spokane City Council’s agenda for Oct. 5 that they would be voting on Resolution 09-75, to oppose Initiative 1033, Lower Property Tax Initiative, which will be on the Nov. 3 ballot.

It was further noted that no public discussion would be allowed on any item on the current or advanced agenda nor on any items relating to political campaigns (items on upcoming election ballots, i.e. I-1033).

This appears to indicate that the members of the City Council are not concerned with what the taxpayers they are supposed to be representing have to say on this matter.

Putting a gag order on testimony concerning 1033 and other matters is a blatant violation of our free speech.

Taxpayers should have a place at the table. After all, we pay the bills.
