Police: Man returning missing purse shot in face

What police describe as two men’s effort to return a missing purse resulted in one of them being shot in the face around midnight. Spokane police this morning arrested a man suspected in the east Spokane incident. The man shot in the jaw walked to Deaconess Medical Center, where he was treated and released, a medical center spokeswoman said. Kyle I. Henrickson, 19, was arrested in the 6500 block of North Walnut Street in the shooting. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail on two counts of first-degree assault. Nicholas J. Sherman, 23, was helping return a female acquaintance’s purse after it had been retrieved from a party, police said. Sherman and Kyle G. Williamson arranged to have the woman pick up the purse at a convenience store at Second Avenue and Thor Street, according to officers. The woman showed up with a boyfriend, police said, and their interviews indicated that he believed the men were going to hurt her or steal from her. The boyfriend approached the two men, who were in a car, and struck Williamson, the driver, with a handgun, which fired a shot into Sherman’s jaw.
