Three things we’ll be talking about this week

1. Children and other high-risk people will begin receiving the swine flu vaccine this week, with scheduled appointments starting today at the Spokane Regional Health District and a clinic Saturday at the Spokane Arena. To schedule an appointment through the health district, call (509) 324-1643. To check the status on vaccines and the schedule for upcoming clinics, go to www.srhd.org.

2. If you find yourself stressed out about the flu, you might want to check out Stanford stress expert Robert Sapolsky – aka “The World’s Funniest Neuroscientist.” Sapolsky will give a presentation about stress, disease and coping on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Spokane Community College, in the Lair Student Center auditorium. It’s free to the public.

3. The Riverfront Park Ice Palace opens for the season on Wednesday, with some new features including indoor seating, expanded food service and more new rental skates. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with varied evening hours. Admission is $4.25 for adults and $3.25 for children. Check the park’s Web site for specials and group rates: www.spokaneriverfrontpark.com.
