A gasoline and convenience market just south of Whitworth College was damaged early today by burglars who broke out the front doors and tried to yank out an ATM from inside the store.

Sheriff’s deputies said about 4 a.m. two men wearing masks used a white Infinity QX to break into the A-1 Gas & Grocery, 9914 N. Wall St.

The thieves put a chain around the ATM machine and tried to yank it free, but they were unsuccessful.

A.J. Fingh, the store manager, said the doors will cost at least $3,000 to replace, and that there was other damage to the building. The business remained open this morning.

Most of these crimes are CAUSED BY the so-called “war on drugs.” The government keeps the price of addictive drugs so high that users are forced into crime to satisfy their addictions.

The government needs to stop making war on the people and legalize freedom.

Instead of making all addictive, health-harming, and community-breaking drugs legal, as Bob seems to be suggesting (probably so he can have more opportunity to sell the pot he grows in his basement) - why not focus on creating more accessible rehabilitation clinics, free-counseling, and anonymous phone-help lines that can aid those who want to release themselves from their addictions?

FREEDOM would be abandonment of drug addictions. Pushers try to convince people that it’s your god-given right to harm your body and mind with illegal drugs that the “government doesn’t want you to use.” In return, communities are harmed, children are influenced and wrongfully educated, and convenience stores get robbed.

Let’s try putting our resources towards educating the public on the proven harm drugs can cause, and providing recovery assistance to those who have made bad choices. Let’s watch as we get the ball rolling and develop into a community that is safer and less criminal.
