Lewis and Clark played the role of spoiler Friday night.

The Tigers returned three Ferris turnovers for touchdowns, and LC all but dashed the Saxons’ postseason hopes with a 42-20 victory in a Greater Spokane League game at Albi Stadium.

LC turned the ball over on its first two possessions and trailed 14-0 in the second quarter. The Tigers (3-4 GSL) rallied behind three defensive touchdowns in the third quarter and outscored Ferris 42-6 over the final 30 minutes.

Plagued by six turnovers, the Saxons (5-3, 4-3) fell to fifth in the league standings and will need both Mead and Gonzaga Prep to lose next week to remain alive for one of the GSL’s three postseason berths.

LC’s Kyle Ellingsen returned a fumble 34 yards to tie the score at 14, and David McNeil added a 21-yard interception return for a touchdown 18 seconds later to put the Tigers on top 21-14.

Ferris scored on its ensuing drive with Connor Halliday’s 12-yard pass to Beau Bozett, but the Saxons missed the extra point and trailed 21-20 with 4:47 left in the third quarter.

Another Saxons mistake on special teams – this time a fumbled snap on a punt – allowed LC’s David Lee to fall on the loose ball in the end zone to push the Tigers ahead 28-20.

In the fourth quarter Lee added a 7-yard touchdown run for the Tigers, and Levi Taylor scored on a 1-yard plunge to put the game away for LC.

Taylor finished with 29 carries for 166 yards, and LC quarterback Jeff Livingston completed 10 of 16 passes for 134 yards.

The Saxons jumped ahead 7-0 when Halliday and Bozett connected on a 7-yard touchdown pass 5½ minutes into the game. Ferris put itself in position to score when Brendon Olson intercepted a pass at the LC 28.

Halliday went over the top of the Tiger defense for a 49-yard scoring strike to Jason Bates for a 14-0 lead midway through the second quarter.

LC senior Joey Via trimmed his team’s deficit to 14-7 when he hauled in Livingston’s 28-yard touchdown pass with 1:58 left in the half.

Halliday completed 25 of 42 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions. Ferris lost three of six fumbles.

Mt. Spokane 49, Shadle Park 7: At Albi, Mt. Spokane (7-1, 6-1) moved into a first-place tie with Central Valley atop the GSL. The Wildcats scored 21 points in 3½ minutes late in the first quarter to turn the contest against the Highlanders (0-8, 0-7) into a rout.

Colten Williams rushed for 100 of the Wildcats’ 429 total yards on the ground. Backup quarterback Carson Blumenthal added two touchdown runs for Mt. Spokane. Drew Before passed for 59 yards, ran for 58 and caught three passes for 60 yards for the Highlanders.
