Sandpoint in title games

Fueled by an overtime win over Bishop Kelly Thursday, the Sandpoint girls soccer team launched a potent attack against Hillcrest Friday, scoring three goals in the first half and then matching that effort in the second, winning 6-1 in the second round of the Idaho State 4A tournament at Brothers Park in Caldwell.

Alicia Mertz led the scoring for the Bulldogs with two goals, including a header off a corner kick in the first half.

They will play Kuna today for the state title at Syringa Middle School in Caldwell.

Kuna beat Skyview 2-1 in overtime Friday.

•Boys: Daniel Anderson helped Sandpoint jump out to a 3-0 lead with two early goals and the Bulldogs held off a late attack by Hillcrest to win 3-2 at Brothers Park and advance to the State 4A boys soccer championship game, which will be played today at Syringa MS in Caldwell.
