The popularity of thrift stores keeps growing.

Savvy Moms Children’s Resale has opened in Spokane Valley, specializing in upscale brands of gently used clothes and accessories for infants and children.

“I’m really picky about what I take (for resale), and my customers appreciate that,” says owner Jennifer Fancher, who opened her store in the Argonne Plaza retail center in August. “We tried to find that niche and the higher-end brand names is what we’ve focused on … keeping my prices competitive.”

Fancher pays cash or offers store credit for items she selects to resell. Anyone can bring in items for consideration during store hours. Her small store is filled with girls and boys clothing, shoes and accessories sizes infant to 14, as well as seasonal items such as Halloween costumes and holiday attire, used books, toys and games. She’s currently seeking winter coats, boots and snow pants.

Customers will find a selection of brand new items for sale as well, including Melissa and Doug brand of wooden toys and new locally handmade diaper bags and locally created wood furniture and knick knacks.

Fancher, who has in the past worked in retail children’s clothing stores, returned to work when she opened Savvy Moms after nine years as a stay-at-home mother. Many similar resale stores opening recently in the Valley have been franchise outlets, but Fancher decided to create a new store with her own style.

“It’s taken off a lot faster than we expected,” she said.
