Gabe Le’s 9-yard touchdown run with 1 minute, 26 seconds remaining in the game rallied the unbeaten and second-ranked Carroll Fighting Saints to a 34-27 victory over the Rocky Mountain Battlin’ Bears in Frontier Conference football play on Saturday in Helena.

Le, a first-team all-conference selection at running back last season and a former standout at Coeur d’Alene High School, helped the Saints win their 30th straight conference game.

Kasey Peters’ third touchdown pass of the game gave the Bears (2-7, 1-7) a 27-20 lead with 6:36 left in the fourth quarter.

But a Gary Wagner-to-Matt Ritter 4-yard TD pass pulled the Saints (9-0, 8-0) even and set up Le’s game-winning score 57 seconds later.

Le also had a 3-yard touchdown run in the first quarter that knotted the score at 7-7.

Le leads the conference in rushing and has six TDs this season.

Central Washington 38, Humboldt State 7: Randall Eldridge rushed for 66 yards and a pair of touchdowns and the second-ranked Wildcats (9-0, 4-0) jumped out to a big first-half lead and cruised past the Lumberjacks (4-4, 0-4) in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play in Ellensburg.

The Wildcats, who led 31-0 after two quarters, finished with 288 yards on the ground en route to their 15th straight regular-season win and 16th straight victory over Humboldt State.

It was a big day for CWU senior wide receiver Johnny Spevak, who had seven catches for 95 yards and his school record-tying 52nd career touchdown.

Spevak also became the school’s career scoring leader with 314 points – breaking Dan Murphy’s mark of 312 set in 1996-99. Current senior kicker Garrett Rolsma has 306 career points after making a field goal and five extra points.

A win Saturday at Dixie State would wrap up the Wildcats’ 32nd GNAC title.

Pacific Lutheran 35, Puget Sound 13: Jordan Rasmussen passed for 176 yards and three touchdowns to propel the Lutes (2-4, 2-1) to a Northwest Conference victory over the Loggers (0-6, 0-3) in Puyallup, Wash.

The Loggers stayed in the game in the first half and had a chance to pull even at 14-all, but quarterback Kavin Williams was stopped for a 1-yard loss at the PLU 2-yard line on the final play of the first half.

The Lutes took over the game in the second half, turning an interception and two fumble recoveries into three touchdown drives to open up a 35-7 lead late in the fourth quarter.
