Inspiring play

The Spokesman-Review

The Gonzaga campus features little reminder signs exhorting students to “Be Inspired.” I was thinking about this last Friday night at Albi Stadium during the Ferris-Central Valley High School football game.

It started out as a game, then became much more … a memorable struggle of two inspired teams making memories they can recall in coming decades for themselves and for fans like me.

On display that night, as well as the previous two Saturday UW Huskies’ games, was inspired play based on the belief in the hearts of kids that they can win. Their efforts caused more than a few tears on cheeks of some early-departing fans that had their belief restored by those kids. I want to thank them for the spirit they instilled in us by theirs.

No one lost on Friday night. The only loss was the shame we older folks in the stands felt when recalling those times we had a chance in our own lives to be inspired and weren’t. Thanks to QB Connor Halliday and kicker Jake Miller and the guys in the trenches. You made us believe again.
