Prep roundup: Cheney blanks Bantams

Kelly Zakrzewski notched a hat trick – scoring all three goals in the first 26 minutes of the match – and the Cheney Blackhawks (14-1, 12-1) romped to a 7-0 victory over the host Clarkston Bantams (3-12, 2-11) in Great Northern League girls soccer action on Tuesday.

Lucy Scott added a pair of second-half goals for Cheney, while Nicole Fox chipped in three assists.

The front-running Blackhawks maintained their three-point lead over second-place Pullman in the GNL standings with the victory.

Elsewhere in the GNL: Niina Al-Hassan found the net once in each half and Alexys Garcia tallied a goal and an assist to power the Pullman Greyhounds (14-1, 12-1) to a 4-0 win over the visiting Deer Park Stags (7-7, 7-6). Allie Druffel also scored for Pullman. … DeeDee Garbe scored four goals – her final three coming during a 17-minute stretch of the second half – and the West Valley Eagles (11-3, 10-3) rolled to a 6-0 victory over the host Medical Lake Cardinals (5-10, 5-8). Courtney Hossfeld started the Eagles off and running with a goal in the sixth minute. Katie Wee found the net in the 32nd minute to give West Valley a 3-0 lead at halftime. … Tasha Luu booted two goals and Sarah Melvin added a goal and an assist to propel the visiting Colville Indians (4-11, 4-9) to a 3-1 win over the Riverside Rams (0-14, 0-13). Taryn Moorhead’s penalty-kick goal gave Riverside a 1-0 lead at the 21-minute mark.

Boys soccer

District 7/9 2B/1B: Josh Gallegos tallied a goal and two assists and the Northwest Christian Crusaders broke the game open with a three-goal burst over a 6-minute span of the first half en route to a 10-0 rout of the visiting Dayton Bulldogs in a loser-out tournament match. … Elsewhere in district play, Karl Muelheims and Brandon Johnson each had a goal and an assist to propel the St. George’s Dragons to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Northport Mustangs in a loser-out match. Top-seeded St. George’s and Northwest Christian will play a regional seeding match on at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at St. George’s.

Great Northern League: Stephanie Logan had 11 kills and Cayley Byrne piled up 19 digs to carry the Pullman Greyhounds (13-0 in league) to the regular-season title with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-6 sweep over the visiting Clarkston Bantams (5-8). … Bailey Wold finished with 21 kills, Mallorie Schoesler had 22 digs and Brooklyn Robinson handed out 42 assists as the West Valley Eagles (11-2) held off the Colville Indians (9-4) 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 17-25, 15-10 to wrap up second place in the league. … Shaley Ham tallied 24 kills, Ashley Rohner had 15 digs and Sayde Davis amassed 44 assists to lead the host Cheney Blackhawks (6-7) to a 26-28, 23-25, 25-15, 25-23, 15-12 win over the upset-minded Deer Park Stags (1-12), who benefited from the 38 digs of Stephanie Ruygrok. … Joni Nagy tallied 13 kills to power the Riverside Rams (6-7) to a 25-11, 25-18, 25-16 sweep over the visiting Medical Lake Cardinals (1-12).
