GU hands Idaho first home loss

Emily Johnson totaled 18 kills and 16 digs to help the Gonzaga Bulldogs hand the Idaho Vandals their first home loss of the season 25-22, 19-25, 26-24, 24-26, 15-6 in a non-conference women’s volleyball match Tuesday.

Michelle Boevers added 15 kills and Allyson Powell had 29 digs for Gonzaga (8-13).

Alicia Milo had a match-high 20 kills for Idaho (11-12). Teammate Sarah Conwell finished with 19 kills and 15 digs.

Men’s golf

Trent Sanders and Nick Ellis each shot three-round totals of 6-under-par 207 to help the Washington State Cougars earn a second-place finish at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M.

UNLV, ranked 17th, won the tourney with a 23-under 829 – eight shots better than WSU.

Sanders and Ellis tied for seventh place. New Mexico State’s Timothy Madigan earned medalist honors with a 9-under 204.

The Idaho Vandals tied for 13th place in the 17-team event with a 15-over 867. Damian Telles topped Idaho with 213 – tied for 24th.

Men’s basketball

The North Idaho Cardinals are ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association preseason poll.
