In brief: EWU, Kiwanis plan Halloween events

CHENEY – Eastern Washington University and the Cheney Kiwanis will host harvest tours and a Halloween carnival on Friday, keeping kids safe and warm and giving them a place to have Halloween fun. Tours will leave Pence Union Building between 3:30 and 4 p.m. and the carnival will be in Louis Anderson Hall from 4 to 6 p.m. Toddlers and children through fifth grade are encouraged to attend dressed in Halloween costumes. Lilac Princess candidate picked
CHENEY – Cheney High School has selected Caitlin Miller as its 2010 Lilac Princess candidate. Miller is active in Family, Career and Leaders of America, DECA and Spanish. She plans to attend Spokane Falls Community College and earn a degree in elementary education from a four-year college. She also volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House, Bible camp and Threads of Hope.
Auditions for ‘Breakin’ Legs’
CHENEY – StageWest Community Theatre of the West Plains will present the play “Breakin’ Legs” by Tom Dulack in February. Auditions will be held Nov. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m., Nov. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. and Nov. 8 from 3 to 5 p.m. The play calls for six men ages 20 to 80 and one woman age 20 to 35. Auditions will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 639 Elm St., Cheney. Cemetery group holds orientation
WEST PLAINS – The Ladies and Gentlemen of Washington State Veterans Cemetery will hold orientation sessions starting next Thursday at 2 p.m. in the cemetery’s temporary office at 14124 W. Highway 2, Medical Lake. The sessions will be held the first Thursday of each month through March. Training sessions will begin in April. Volunteers in this organization attend funeral services for veterans being buried in the new cemetery, which is planned to open on Memorial Day 2010.
