Suspended The Kansas City Chiefs suspended running back Larry Johnson until Nov. 9. The club is on its bye week, so Johnson will miss one game, at Jacksonville on Nov. 8. The news release said only that Johnson was suspended for conduct detrimental to the club. His agent said he would appeal.

Surgery Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford had surgery on his injured right shoulder and the school called it a success. In a release sent out by the school, Bradford’s father said Dr. James Andrews informed him that the procedure went “just as we expected.” Bradford has said he plans to enter the NFL draft if his recovery goes as planned.

Injured Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo will miss at least the next two games after sustaining a hairline fracture in one of his ribs. Luongo was hurt during Saturday’s win over Toronto when a shot caught him through a soft spot in his padding.

•Reigning U.S. junior figure skating champion DeeDee Leng, 15, will miss the rest of the 2009-10 season with a back injury. Leng also announced that she will leave coach Maria Jezak-Athey to join up with Julie Wang.

Undecided All-America receiver Dez Bryant says he hasn’t decided yet whether he’ll enter the NFL draft after the NCAA ruled that he will remain ineligible for the rest of his junior season at Oklahoma State.

Died Longtime NFL assistant coach Darvin Wallis, 60, died in Colorado. The cause of death was not yet determined. He retired in January 2008 after 26 years in the NFL in including jobs with Cleveland and Kansas City.

Hired The LPGA Tour picked Michael Whan, 44, as its new commissioner, turning to a former marketing executive in golf and hockey equipment to rebuild the tour’s relationships with sponsors.

First Yankees broadcaster Suzyn Waldman has become the first woman to call a World Series game on the radio. Waldman was on WCBS-AM in New York for Game 1.
