Roundup: Top-seeded Mead sweeps U-Hi

Alexis Olgard piled up 17 kills and six blocks to power the unbeaten and top-seeded Mead Panthers to a 25-12, 25-19, 25-11 sweep over the visiting and fourth-seeded University Titans in a District 8 4A volleyball match Wednesday.

The win sets up a showdown with Lewis and Clark at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Spokane High with the winner earning the top seed to regionals.

In the other 4A district match, Janele Vogt tallied 11 kills and 18 digs and Malea Webb chipped in 31 assists and seven service aces to send the visiting and third-seeded LC Tigers to a 27-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22 win over the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups. Allison Reed had 16 kills for the Bullpups, while Haylee Brown finished with 36 assists and 13 digs. G-Prep will play U-Hi in a 9 a.m. Saturday loser-out match at Mt. Spokane.

•District 8 3A: Sam Hill tallied 11 kills and five blocks and Tiana Lee handed out 40 assists to propel the visiting and third-seeded North Central Indians to a 25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15 victory over the second-seeded East Valley Knights. NC advances to play top-seeded Mt. Spokane at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Spokane to decide the top two seeds to regionals. … Ixchelle Oleson notched 13 kills and Taylor Johnson came up with 16 digs to power the Mt. Spokane Wildcats to a 25-23, 25-12, 25-17 sweep of the visiting Shadle Park Highlanders. Shadle will play EV at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Spokane with the winner earning the third seed to regionals with the loser out.

•Northeast A League: The Newport Grizzlies rolled to a 25-19, 25-8, 25-23 sweep over the visiting Kettle Falls Bulldogs (0-8) to win the league title with an 8-0 record.

Girls soccer

District 8 4A: Jackie Morden, Nicole Richardson and Haleigh Miller scored shootout goals to lift the Central Valley Bears to a 2-1 victory over the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups in a loser-out match at Albi Stadium. Miller put CV on top 1-0 with a goal in the first minute. Guilia Oliva evened the score for G-Prep with a goal in the 62nd minute. Katie Kerr was the only Bullpup to score in the shootout. The Bears will play Mead at 1 p.m. Saturday at Albi.

Women’s soccer

Courtney Stewart and Tabitha Grow each had a goal and an assist to propel the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (7-3-4, 7-2-3) to a 6-1 victory over the Yakima Valley Yaks (0-11-1, 0-11-1) in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges play in Yakima.

College volleyball

Nicole Graybeal put on a show during CCS’ 25-5, 25-6, 25-15 sweep of the Walla Walla Warriors (22-15, 6-5) in NWAACC action at SFCC.

Graybeal totaled nine kills, 10 digs and 11 blocks for the Sasquatch (25-11, 9-1), who are tied with Blue Mountain atop the East Division standings.

Men’s golf

Gonzaga (871) tied for fifth place at the Kauai Collegiate Invitational at Puakea Golf Course in Lihue, Hawaii.

The Bulldogs’ Derek Cheney shot a 1-over-par 73 to tie for 15th at 214.
