Victims challenge robbers in two CdA incidents
Three women foiled two robberies within minutes of each other Thursday night in Coeur d’Alene when they challenged masked gunmen, according to police.
A masked gunman confronted a woman getting out of her car at her home in the 4200 block of North Echo Glenn at 10:10 p.m., grabbing the driver’s door as it opened and snatching a bank bag. The woman said she “screamed and kicked him hard” and he fell, dropped the bag and ran away, according to a news release.
The man was described as being in his 20s, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9 and medium build. He was wearing all black except for a white and red mask.
Twelve minutes later about two miles away, a gunman demanded money from a clerk at the Dollar Tree store at 406 W. Neider Ave. The store manager grabbed the gun and the robber struggled free and fled the store on foot, police said.
The robber was described as white, possibly in his 20s, 5-foot-6 and very thin. He had blue eyes and dark curly hair to his neck. He was wearing dark jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt under a dark blue coat with the hood pulled over his head, a red baseball cap and a brown bandanna covering most of his face.
Sheriff’s dogs were brought out but couldn’t find a suspect. Police don’t know if the cases are connected. Anyone with information is asked to call Coeur d’Alene police at (208) 769-2320.

I think it has finally gotten to the point where people have just F’g had enough with criminals…People need to protect themselves and not give in to the demands of criminals…I have something very special waiting ever so patiently for a criminal if they break into my place…people need to arm themselves with pepper spray because it works! When you walk out to the vehicle have it in your hand, especially if you are alone. People, pepper spray is EFFECTIVE. And to prevent it from getting onto others you can get the gel or the foam spray…before you approach your vehicle, look around for anything or anyone that appears suspicious…criminals are cowards and hide in shadows, in the back of pickup trucks, and even under the vehicle…many people want to arm themselves with handguns but understand this, most people are not trained to use them like law enforcement and the military, and the criminal can actually get that weapon and use it against you…and in court, it is much easier to explain pepper spray than it is the use of a bullet, as the attorneys love to win so they can put gasoline in their expensive vehicles…I have worked in prisons and have seen the most difficult inmates on the ground crying like a baby after we “blew their wigs back” with that pepper spray—I thought if was funny as hell, and laughed my arse off (we did NOT carry any other self defense weapons mind you)…Remember, be aware of your surroundings no matter where you are—don’t be oblivious to the goings on around you!
