Holiday events and fundraisers highlight weekend

It’s all about community events this week at greater Spokane Valley churches as several host Halloween events and a few more get ready to launch the annual bazaar season next Saturday. All the events are open to the community and several are fundraisers to support the churches and their projects.

•Foothills Community Church is having a full schedule this weekend. Today from 6 to 8 p.m., the church will host a Harvest Fun Night with carnival games for kids, a pie social, live music and a quilt show. There is no admission charge but attendees are asked to donate a nonperishable food item for the Union Gospel Mission.

While the fun night runs at the church, 11102 N. Forker Road, there will be a chili feed in the community center across the street beginning at 5:30 p.m.

On Sunday at 6:30 p.m. the church will host the Jews for Jesus performance group “The Liberated Wailing Wall.” The group has recorded 10 albums and will be performing music and drama during the evening.

•Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, will host a “Trunk or Treat” event today beginning at 6 p.m. Children are invited to visit decorated cars in the church parking lot to receive treats.

The church will also be among the first to put on a fall bazaar next Saturday. The annual event includes a bake sale, crafts and home items. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the bazaar will also be open following the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, Nov. 8.

•A Halloween carnival will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 15319 E. Eighth Ave. There will be games, food and prizes.

•Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will host its “Shop Till You Drop” holiday bazaar next Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be crafts, a bake sale, antiques, raffles and vendors. Beverages and lefse will be served. Admission is free. The church is at 2511 S. Pines Road.

The evening will begin with dinner at 5:30 p.m., a silent auction at 6:30 p.m. and a live auction at 7 p.m. The cost of the dinner is a $3 donation.
