‘Rights’ measure misnamed

The Spokesman-Review

The U.S. Bill of Rights preserves individual liberty by placing limits on government power. Envision Spokane’s so-called bill of rights does exactly the opposite. It empowers activist government at the expense of individual liberty. Its “rights” violate your actual rights to life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness.

As Ayn Rand said, “Any alleged ‘right’ of one man, which necessitates the violation of the rights of another, is not and cannot be a right.”

Proposition 4 is a broad hodgepodge of socialist proposals. It would require a large transfer of resources or their control to the public sector, and many yet-to-be defined regulatory mechanisms. Its passage would be a disaster for all Spokanites.
